NU VOID SOUND

inspired heavily by my good friend okosan's old daily music blog "depths from the net", i'm going to try to listen to something new and/or interesting at least once a day. this is something i've been meaning to do for a while, but i figured i'd do it when the new year hit. this site's currently being heavily retooled atm btw, so don't expect this to look the same for very long. actual info should be static, at least. ~raine*

EDIT 01.27.2024: I MADE AN OFFICIAL TITLE FOR THIS FINALLY !!!! that took way too long, lulz.

Wayside Diluvian - Welcome, Labs

i found this album just as i was getting ready to put this whole blog together, and from an artist that doesn't seem to have released a ton of music yet (i had not heard of dj hyperpop or any of their aliases prior to this appearing in my youtube recommendations), i think it's a really solid lil mini-album. it reminds me greatly of early aphex twin or, for a far more apt example, the msx alias greenhouse. for anyone who's a fan of minimalistic illbient and soothing chord jams, this is an easy recommendation. sadly, there doesn't seem to be a way of downloading the album yet, but hopefully the artist makes a bandcamp soon or puts up a mediafire link or something. genuinely, my only complaint lulz.

(unknown artist) - Jamba! Star Megamix

i'm not entirely sure what this is, but regardless i find it deeply fascinating. recently i've been getting pretty deeply into weird 14+ year old youtube videos, at least partly bc i have entered a feedback loop where that's half of what youtube is offering me with their algorithm. i can't say i'm upset about this, especially since it helps me find gems like this. there's just something deeply fascinating about a corporate banger like this, something so cheery and happy and without a care or thought in the world, especially given this is a piece of art seemingly used heavily to sell a scam-adjacent ringtone service. admittedly, i'm completely unsure as to whether this is a fan edit or an official work, but regardless i adore the energy here. there is a non-zero chance i use this in a dj set in the future and/or remix it, it is art that needs to be seen and heard.

message on hiatus

i got rlly sick almost immediately after starting this project and i'm still sick but i'm feeling better enough that i can contribute again. i might do more than one post a day here for a bit to make up or something, apologies about the wait

nsrrenardalt - jesus christ

this short tune by [probably not actually renard] is a neat lil ytpmv of music, a cacaphony of noises occasionally reaching musical genius. the short melody in the middle is surprisingly cute and renard-like, it feels odd stuck like this in the middle of this noise piece. good lil 30-second sketch.

VLIF - tort.3gp

not purely a music release, but it's my blog and i get to pick the media!!! this feels raw in the best way pawsible, like something u'd send yr buddy over irc with the worst dial-up connection imaginable, and not in a faux net-nostalgia way either. it just feels authentically like an old piece of art that u might stumble upon in the early-to-mid 2000s, like digital warm cocoa with the nice lil marshmallows in there too. good stuff to keep my chest warm.

FIAB - Love Me

i happened upon a few HALLEY LABS trax when i was a little pup, and while this was not one of them i still absolutely adore this track. even as i type this in a cold basement needing to snuggle up in blankets to keep toasty, i almost forget the cold and feel warm with life and physical tangible joy while listening to this banger. easily the best song on the comp it was packaged in back in the day.

Chumbawumba - Happiness Is Just A Chant Away

this sounds like a louis wain painting and i mean that in the best way. autistic utopianism banger.

Crash - Crash!

extreme groovetastic. if i ever make another weatherscam mixtape (which is unlikely) i'm almost definitely sampling this in it. the copy i found admittedly seems to have some bad cutoff at parts which is apparently due to tape degradation, but that doesn't hide how rad of an album this is. maybe once the weather gets less deadly where i am i'll listen to this on walks, preferably with a less degraded rip.

Fiona's Spiral - Down,Down,Down

as part of an unrelated project, i received recommendation from the artist themself to check this out and,, yeah this sounds like a manic episode its one big hard mood, from the rise to the painful fucking fall. the last two tracks feels like glass shards manifesting in my back or the worms in my skull procreating and penetrating through my chassis, it's amazing of a listen go check it out.

daniwellP - Nyanyanyanyanyanyanya!

are words needed to describe a piece of art as transcendant as this ? it's so simple yet it is filled with eternal love. i think i sampled the artwork of this in an album art back in 2020 bc i vibed with it hard but idk how i never actually listened to this. icon of angel joy

monument XIII - look out the window (just the check the world is still there)

this piece is so good i made an amv for it, just to express my love and the internal conceptualisations of self this unleashes upon my sacred form. gods bless chillwavegang.

sunsetcorp - END OF LIFE ENTERTAINMENT SCENARIO #1

i know this isn't exactly obscure, but this fucks. so hard. i want to make a piece of art as striking and beautiful and contemplative as this one day. BY THE OCEAN,,,,,BY THE OCEAN,,,,,BY THE OCEAN,,,,, my favorite detail is probably the fact that this is very obviously a live mix by the way daniel lopatin occasionally triggers the wrong sample, which just makes it even stronger of a piece to me. i almost don't want an eccojams vol.2 bc i doubt it'll ever go as hard as this lol.

Toho Studios - Mothra

this isn't music but i don't care i adore this film, there's obviously issues i have with it like there's some Choices made here but outside of that i still can't help but love this piece of art.

for legal reasons i cannot link to where u can watch this but it should be easy to find outside of official sources ;3

Ani Andrade - a cat sings "ERROR" by niki

i've never listened to the original, but this goes hard nonetheless. always remember it gets better <3

Renard - Livication

LOOK I KNOW I HAVE PUT SEVERAL EMMA ESSEX TRAX HERE B4 BUT THIS IS A REALLY OBSCURE RELEASE AND ONLY ONE OF THE TRAX ON IT WAS RE-RELEASED ANYWHERE ITS NOT EVEN ON THE OFFICIAL ARCHIVE NOW SO UMM,, YEAH. i'm not even gonna pretend this has like, any must-have listens outside of "run faster" which almost feels like a banger trauma b-side or something. it's funny, if i had found renard when i was little around the time this stuff was coming out i would think it's the worst shit ever, worse than pop music! (while also listening to it a shitton cuz i secretly adored it) and yet now when checking it all out it makes me, oddly nostalgic ? maybe it's some of the samples, but a lotta this stuff i didn't actually listen to back then lol. so um,, i don't actually have anything meaningful to say here i just find this odd transitory release from that odd in-between period before renard's design was finalised and he was wearing that really fucking gaudy jacket kinda interesting. good shit 7/10. also in stereo slaps to this day it absolutely fucks my shit up in the best way pawsible !! umm yeah bye

listen to the release here or something idk why i write it like that every time lololol

2024.02.07

Pavement - Stereo

i feel pretty confident from listening to this that devi mccallion was inspired by the vocal inflections this singer does, and i mean that in a very good way. this song's a fuckin banger dude !!

BAD MANNERS - LIP UP FATTY

i have no idea how this ended up in my recommendations (i guess ive been checking out some older music recently, but its mostly been like philly soul and funk ?), but im still very happy either way, this is such a chill tune i can't help but bounce along.
